Pros

Brand is respectful along with its longevity and integrity. I have never seen so many people be willing to work so hard for a company. There are a lot of long term employees that provides stability to the organization as well as introspect and history. I primarily stayed because of the brand name and because I was able to continue on with my responsibilities with little interference from above - a situation that is certainly appealing to me.

Cons

What is most disappointing about The Hartford is its leadership (or lack of the right leadership). There is a club mentality and unless you give up your indviduality and independence, you will not make it into the club and you will go nowhere. And, what's amazing, the individuals in the club aren't taking The Hartford anywhere either - as evidenced....

Pros

The Hartford is a good place to work for especially starting out young. The growth opportunities are there if you look for them and put forth the effort. They proactvely have you work on a development plan. If you actually take the plan seriously because there are steps, then you will go places with this company. I began in the Customer Care department and stayed there for about two years. The job is fast paced and you need to keep a positive head on your shoulders. Most of the insureds and agents are very respectful and most importantly, professional. You are working with small businesses after all. The benefits package is decent. Medical is a little pricey but PTO allotment and requests for time off is actually very good. I became a top performer within a year just by doing my job and serving our clients. If you are not interested in customer service then this job is definitely NOT for you. It is 100% about servicing. The coaching you get is good. If you do something wrong they will tell you what it is and provide solutions as to correct it next time. It is a micro managed environment, simple as that. ALL call centers as far as I know are micro managed. The Audit department is completely laid back. The turn over rate in audit is VERY low, almost non-existent. The only reason there was an opening was because several of the reviewers are beginning to retire. I am young, the average age of a reviewer is probably mid forties to mid fifties.

Cons

The training is not the greatest for Audit. Customer care training was EXCEPTIONAL. I have a lot of respect for this company but do not plan to stay here more than 5 years unless I can get my foot in the door of becoming an auditor. The only reason I say this is that the compensation could definitely be higher. But like most companies, you must leave to get higher pay, but you can always come back to the company later if it fits you.

Pros

Great Work / Life Balance, Fair Compensation, Good Benefits, Free Parking, Decent Reputation

Cons

Senior Management has been there for too long and don't want to change anything. This is part of the reason why the company is going down hill now. There are also too many under qualified people in management roles.
