Pros

Inspiring mission, great people, fast pace, well resourced

Cons

The organization is huge, and people in the same roles can have drastically different experiences depending on whether they work for the world office, or a state program - and each state program is very distinct with its own culture and expectations. Be sure you really vet the program you are pursuing to ensure it's the right fit, and if it's not a fit, don't fret - there's likely another program at The Nature Conservancy that is.

Pros

Culture, values, great mission, collaborative work, great and friendly coworkers, rewarding work. Yes the process takes a little bit, but if you are determined to such a cause, this won’t be any problem. For me the hiring process and how long it took was great for me, it gave me time to organize and start fresh!

Cons

I don’t think there is any cons. Really good company.

Pros

Smart and mission-driven colleagues. Its people are its greatest asset for sure. Does lots of interesting and innovative conservation work. Pretty good pay and benefits for nonprofit sector. 401K matching is great.

Cons

Poor work-life balance. Organization is very decentralized and siloed, so difficult to get things coordinated and accomplished. One hand often doesn't know what the other hand is doing. Has a very corporate feel for a nonprofit. Very hierarchical. Senior management is not very transparent. Lack of opportunities for those in operations roles to travel or see conservation work in action.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate the value you see in our benefits package and are happy to hear that you enjoy your work with your colleagues. Our people are the heart of our work. I am sorry to hear that you haven’t been supported in your work-life balance. How we work is just as important, and we are taking initiatives to improve these concerns by initiating our Operational Excellence Initiative and extending our Nature Friday pilot which addresses manageable workloads and capacity challenges due to the growing complexity of our work. When it comes to being a decentralized organization, we recognize that the way people experience working at TNC will vary by business unit, geography, and work responsibilities. We do value the collaborative efforts that are essential to our success as one Conservancy. We appreciate your feedback and are always seeking ways to increase overall transparency and reduce bureaucracy. We would like to hear more about your experience and address your concerns. Please contact us at recruiting@tnc.org.
