      Why I love being a Land Steward

      Pros

      I get to follow my passion in conservationism at a pace that I am comfortable with. This is a great beginning to anyone who wants to start their career in environmentalism, conservation, land stewardship/management, natural resources, etc.

      Cons

      It takes some adaptability to adjust to living in an isolated place, and extreme weather can strongly limit your mobility.

      Great people and thorough onboarding

      Pros

      I’ve been at the org for a few months and so far am loving it. A lot of great, kind, intelligent people and the onboarding process is thorough, I have found that everything is extremely well documented, and resources are easy to find without needing to ask other people. Great collaborative environment and everyone is working towards clearly defined goals and is passionate about their work.

      Cons

      It’s a big, global organization and as such there is some overlap between divisions and teams. Navigating the organizational structure has been the only challenge so far, as well as some early morning calls given the need to work across multiple time zones. These are challenges, not necessarily “cons”.

      Pros

      The company as a whole, as well as my specific business unit, cares about employee well-being, work-life balance, and is very respectful. They offer an 8% match on your 401K after one year.

      Cons

      Some business units do not have the same healthy and happy environment. Stewardship staff (who are doing the heart of our work) should get paid more.
