The only real benefit is a "free" masters degree.

Pros

Health insurance, five weeks paid vacation, tuition reimbursement, and it looks good on a resume. The training is top-notch and everyone in this field has heard of NECC.

Cons

Expect to work long shifts back-to-back (a thirteen-hour workday is not unheard of, particularly on the Staff Intensive Unit). This made it impossible to keep a regular sleep schedule and maintain a work-life balance. You don't get breaks, just a "research hour," and doing anything non-work-related during your research hour is looked down upon. On the bright side, maybe you'll get a concussion and get moved to the day team.

Pros

The kids are great and so are some co-workers

Cons

NECC paints this beautiful picture of their team oriented workplace and it couldn't be further from the truth! They DO NOT value their employees...you are dispensable and replaceable. Your supervisors will tell you that they are "advocating" for you, which is simply untrue. On top of all this, the pay is incredibly low. I know they will write back and say "Salaries are set by the state" and again...this is not true! They gaslight each and everyone one of their employees into thinking that they are cared for and supported and it couldn't be further from the truth. Open your eyes and get out of here as soon as possible!

There is no denying our teachers can encounter challenges with their role, but we provide our employees with great benefits, training and knowledge that will allow them to excel at a career within NECC or at any opportunity in this field. Don't work here, it's not worth the strain you'll go through mentally

Pros

The students are treated wonderfully, they get the care they deserve at this establishment. 5 weeks paid vacation On-site grad program opportunities

Cons

The treatment of staff is absolutely despicable, especially residential staff. Long hours with minimum help is not an ideal set up in my mind. Some of the residences don't even have designated bathrooms for just staff to use. If you're not a "yes-man", your time here will not be ideal. Incompetent staff are given promotions simply because they were in a certain person's lab or threw others under the bus. Staff who complain are constantly coddled and not expected to work to their full potential all in the name of keeping staff. The staff here don't realize that this establishment is unlike any other in the world and if you ever leave here, you need to learn how to not complain about everything. Specialists are constantly trying to show the rest of the company that their students "don't have problem behavior" and never listen to staff who work with these students 40+ hours a week. Constantly told to essentially suck it up and not complain about being sent to numerous teams in a week due to staff shortages across the board. Don't listen to the HR rep who may possibly respond to any reviews, this place is toxic and not great for your mental well being. I'm hanging on by a thread.
