Pros

Great shift fun place to work. Family oriented and nice insensitives

Cons

Need to have more professional personnel in management listen to the complaints and take care of them. Too much favoritism. Just because you work at the zoo you are not supposed to treat people animals. If someone complains about something or someone look it trough don’t just brush it off until it overflows. Don’t lose good professional people over here say

Sorry to hear your experience was less than stellar. Maybe you'll consider giving us another chance. We're excited to announce that Zoo Miami is now under new leadership. Otis Gries will be the new GM there, and he's awesome! We're pretty confident that he'll quickly address a lot of the concerns you mentioned. Respectfully, SSA's People Department

Pros

You get to work at the zoo. Somehow you will be part time and work every single day.

Cons

Crazy high expectations with low incentive pay. You have to pay for your Uniform and lunch. Lunch costs 4 dollars a day and they take it out of your paycheck unless you get a manager to sign some form. Expect to go home early half an hour if you do skip lunch. They tend to do a lot of open hires, and some management will treat you like a disposable employee. Lot's of kids working, but what do you expect? It's concessions at the Zoo. Management doesn't seem flexible at all. Long time staff always talk bad about the company. Not much room for growth at all.

We're sad to hear that your experience with us has not lived up to your nor our standards; but we're glad you took the time to leave us your thoughts. We'll share them with our Denver Zoo team in hopes that we can all improve.

Pros

Seeing the animals every day is fun, and interacting with guests is rewarding.

Cons

Managers are mostly in their 20s. Experienced employees are unappreciated and eventually leave. Scheduling doesn't consider personal life, and days off are usually split. Rude and vindictive behavior is common. The most highly compensated can often be found playing games on their phones or watching sports. PT employees are charged for meals automatically while FT eats free - if HR gets payroll right. Workforce is diverse overall except for upper management. Conduct cultural sensitivity training.

Working at a Zoo is pretty cool and we agree, seeing the animals every day is quite a treat! We're sorry to hear that your experience with SSA doesn't match that same positive feeling. We do appreciate you taking the time to alert us of these situations you experienced. Culture and employee engagement is something we continually look at and develop. While it can and will be a work in progress, we will continue to strongly fight for a great culture. We will look into your above comments as to ensure positive experiences for all members of the SSA family. We hope you have a great start to the new year!
