The Suzuki School Response

Thank you for your feedback. It is always disappointing when we cannot meet a specific employee's aspirations and expectations, or when we don’t agree with their view of a situation. The Suzuki School leadership team (and please note that it is also personally important to me), has worked hard to ensure equitable and fair career opportunities for all our employees, and that our faculty and employees have equitable opportunities for growth. We have limited turnover in our leadership staff, and therefore have become more intentional about creating pathways for growth. The most important step to leadership at our school is to become a certified Montessori teacher - since we are a Montessori School. When positions do open up, we use a “blind interview process” to evaluate candidates to eliminate implicit or explicit bias. This process has helped to ensure that the most qualified candidates are selected and that the identities are not revealed until after a selection is made. Also, we have redefined certain admin positions to provide new pathways for growth and development. Many of our faculty have participated in becoming trainers through the Montessori Teacher Education Institute. If you review our leadership team at all three campuses (and our teacher training center) you will see that not only do most of our leadership team have the Montessori credential, but it is also diverse - by ethnicity, country of origin, and gender. We have also invested heavily in ensuring that we have a diverse, equitable and inclusive school and have created a 30+ hour facilitated DEI training program that all employees will attend. This training program is designed to ensure we have fidelity with Culturally Responsive Teaching, and that our diverse staff know it is an inclusive school where they can thrive as educators. If a current or prospective employee does not feel that the school - or I, live up to our mission or values, please reach out to me or our “hotline” because we take this feedback seriously. Sincerely, Paula Charles President

Pros

The environment is welcoming and the staff are nice. The school has a great Montessori program! The school breaks are beneficial for allowing time to be spent with family and recuperating. Training is also available to help staff develop credentials. Management is supportive of a healthy lifestyle and provides reimbursement to those who have gym memberships.

Cons

Communication between staff and Administrators needs improvement. There is work/life balance for some staff not all. You are sometimes asked to do work from higher rank because others are not "competent" to do so. Promotion opportunities are very slim.

Pros

school has a very international teaching staff--teachers and students from all over the world. very diverse population that is friendly and open minded. the buildings are cheerful and airy and light.

Cons

i found it hard to fit in without training and because i started mid-semester. i wish the playgrounds were bigger and that professional development and training were better implemented.
