Pros

The job is easy and not stressful. The opportunity for advancement is better than most companies. You are also focused on helping people meet their health needs.

Cons

The money is not as good as one would expect if you ran your own store. Turnover is also high in my district.

Pros

Great Place to work. Knowledgeable staff. Usually a fun enviroment. You get the chance to interact with people with all health issues.

Cons

There's not a lot room for advancement. You allmost have to wait for someone to die before you get promoted.

Pros

I love my in-store co-workers, most of them at least. I also like the flexible schedules. Thats pretty much it.

Cons

Where do I start. It is the perfect example of a dead in job. You will almost never move up in the company and if you do they will most definitely screw you over. Literally if you have tons of product knowledge, tons of management experience and are a loyal employee and work their 4 years....they will hire someone in with 0 experience, 9 product knowledge and YES pay them more that you. Their is nothing more frustrating then that. Also you not only have to do task work like you do at every other job and of course provide excellent customer service but you also have to have knowledge! Thats my issue because they DO NOT pay you for knowledge. You cant simply just know where the product are, you have to know a good amount about the 1000's of products in store. That requires research on your own time outside the Vitamin Shoppe if you want to keep up. Their is no question that all of us working at this job do our own reading and outside research just to get paid the same as a McDonalds working(no offense). We have to consult with customers on diet strategies, proper ways to eat and of course recommend products that will help them reach their goals. We have to know what we are talking about and that comes with a lot of responsibility, you could really mess some people up if you just BS all day long.....but we get paid for none of that. Honestly after working there a year I still get paid less then McDonalds worker, Walmart workers, and walmart employees aren't expected to have product knowledge like we are. This company has only been BOOMING in the recession! They are way up as far as money goes, yet when it comes to paying their employees they constantly use the "recession" excuse even though they are doing better in the recession!!!! And when it comes to making goal, they make it very clear that they are doing OUTSTANDING in the recession and to not make any recession excuses for not making goal! WTF As this company gains success....they treat and pay their employees worse and worse, less and less. Time to look else where.
