Pros

Terrific mission, and the brand is only growing. Attracting world-class talent in all corners. Deep-pocketed owner sets this newspaper apart.

Cons

Benefits are improving but still not great. Mantra of constant self-disruption stokes anxiety. That said, despite the frequent hype of a runway for experimentation and innovation, my desk/team found the tarmac to be closed off. Publisher is an empty suit with a 1,000-watt smile.

Great place to work if you're a white male (preferably on the older side)

Pros

Name recognition, seemingly unlimited resources because of the billionaire owner, no evidence of the owner messing with the journalism in any way, great job security, demand for excellent work. Depending on the team you're on, you can have a wonderful experience here.

Cons

White men can misbehave with no consequences, whereas women and POCs who speak out respectfully are labeled problematic. Some editors very clearly pay more attention and give more opportunities to white men.

Pros

There are many positives: I work on new, interesting technology; I have a highly competent manager from whom I've learned a great deal; I get to contribute to a platform that supports journalism globally; etc.

Cons

The pay is not as high as what I could earn in other sectors: I work a lot of hours but am making an average salary for what someone with my job makes in my city. Also, there are no bonuses or profit sharing measures tied to performance.
