Decent for college students

Pros

Gives new college students a great opportunity to boost their resume. Can work part time around your schedule. Pay is okay if you're just looking for extra money. Completely hands-off (no restraining residents). Amazing benefits package.

Cons

Staff yell at each other ALL THE TIME. At least one staff member at each house is left crying almost daily. Major cliques. Pay isn't enough if it's your only income and doesn't compensate for the work you do. I didn't get fired but it happens really easily. I loved the kids and my job, but the staff were all so nasty and cruel to each other that it became impossible to work there, and I was there longer than the majority of the counselors. I left because of staff attitude and ego, which is the main reason any staff quits.

Stay away from this place!

Pros

The school has an admirable mission, however, like so many non-profits, it's not easy to fulfill that mission. There are some very good teachers there.

Cons

This is not a good place to work. The school caters to at-risk kids, some of whom have minor issues, others who are downright scary. It is difficult to teach in an environment where you are constantly on alert, but made so much more so because of the school's leaders who are out to lunch. They behave like a high school clique, constantly gossiping, and playing favorites. Worse yet is the behavioral therapist who is actually a licensed social worker. She's about the most arrogant, unhelpful person you will ever meet. Lots of turnover for good cause.
