Pros

Nonprofit seems cool. If you are Christian, there are lots of opportunities to openly live out and practice your faith at this company. Building is pretty nice. Some teams are trying to adopt or already have adopted agile/scrum.

Cons

Very low pay for work field and being a Fortune 500 company. Under the illusion that the pay-grade is good because of the area when the area itself underpays. Then management complains that they can't get good workers in IT or get good workers to stay. Technology within IT is rather outdated. People are predominately local college grads. Not much diversity. Very male dominated upper management. Very much into the "Thrivent way" and have a closed mind to change and are slow to adapt to new practices, risks, and technologies. CIO doesn't sit under the CEO when the company's whole existence is reliant on the IT systems.

Pros

Strong reputation, values driven, opportunities for volunteerism

Cons

Very white and male - very few women and people of color at the company, even fewer in leadership positions; often has an old boys network feel to it

Thanks for sharing your concerns. It is important to recognize that there is a difference between the job opportunities that are "employees" vs. the opportunity to be a financial representative, which is an entrepreneurial opportunity. Being an entrepreneur of any type of small business requires certain skills, capabilities and preparation to launch that business. Thrivent has one of the highest retention / success rates in the industry for our financial representatives. The financial representatives have access to the full benefits packages available to regular corporate employees.
