Pros

Amazing people you will love who you talk to every day. You will acquire a wealth of knowledge which will excel you in your field.

Cons

high employee turn over. why? within the finance dept. -> extremely outdated error prone procedures + astonishing amount of manual redundancies; (should in this day and age be handled by scripting). you will burn out fast due to the high turn over and lack of procedural documentation. you will also be thrown into a war between management who does nothing and the workers who sweat all day. do not be fooled, hr is not your friend, theyre there to represent management and throw you under the train. even when a solution is presented to management about how they could easily make everyones life better; they ignore the idea and keep pressing for tighter deadlines. Once you are on top of your game you realize that the rhetoric of welcoming innovation becomes nothing short of a failed stale morale boost at company meetings.

Pros

Great, dedicated, kind, intelligent and diverse colleagues. Opportunity to work with partners from all walks of life and missions and personalities (fiscal sponsorship). Good pay and benefits and flexible work environment. This current executive team has walked the talk around hiring diverse employees.

Cons

There have been so many leadership changes on the executive team. Each regime does a strategic plan a rebranding and re-working of the mission. Lots of talk and corporate jargon from management but the follow through and substance is lacking. Reliance on external consultants who are not in touch with day to day operations of staff. Like any large organization there are departmental silos and things can be slow moving. There has been significant turn over in some departments. Historical reliance on throwing technology and software at the problem without working through processes and roles and functions.

Pros

The mission of Tides was incredible and the people were totally dedicated to it. The pandemic made our work even more important.

Cons

The organization was in transition. Small executive leadership team not representative of the organization's staff or mission that has now changed. The pandemic made the amount of work unsustainable.
