Bad Decision

Pros

Store was closed on Sundays, had some good laughs with fellow technicians and surprisingly did actually learn a few things during my time.

Cons

Poor Management. They used scare tactics to try and improve sales and work ethic, which backfired and created a high turn over rate. We would be worked 12+ hours without being allowed to eat lunch. I didn't eat lunch for a good 4 months straight. Promised an automatic raise and promotion after 90 days, and was then informed the testing was only offered in August. (8 months away at the time). Tire Techs weren't allowed overtime and would be forced to clock out and work for free on Saturdays to avoid the store manager getting in trouble. Management would also make me do alignments, brake jobs etc and would then have a service tech sign off on it and get paid commission on the job since I was only a tire tech. Dishonest employees. Service techs would just replace the oil change stickers and not actually change the oil on a regular basis. Holes would get drilled in repairable flats to force the customer to purchase a new tire. 2 employees regularly smoked weed in the tire rack area on the clock. Run down shop. This may have just been store specific, but the particular shop I worked in was downright dangerous. Extremely poor lighting that management said they would fix if we "proved ourselves" and claimed the lighting was sitting waiting in the warehouse. We were told this for TWO YEARS. Very run down equipment. We only had one working tire machine for the entire shop and one balancer. Other equipment was piled in trash not working. Hydraulic hoses would bust on lifts quite often and it was a pretty regular occurrence cars got stuck on lifts. OSHA would have an absolute field day if they saw this shop.

Burn out inevitable

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Good people to work with. Quick pace job.

Cons

Extremely understaffed. Management won't/can't hire more people. Forced to work 10-12 hours per day non stop. Can't even take a break for lunch. It's physically hard work (which is not an issue with proper breaks, but work demand is high). Burn out is inevitable under these conditions even for those willing to work this hard and for the number of hours per day. No work/life balance. Video cameras so customers can watch from waiting area every minute you are working on a/their car is ridiculous.
