I am very upset and sorry to see this. This review is extremely concerning as we do not take allegations around harassment lightly. I am uncertain as to what transgressed, but I strongly urge you to reach out to me or our HR team so that this can be addressed. We want to discuss the matter and learn more, as we do not tolerate harassment of any kind in the workplace. - Chris Comparato, CEO

Pros

Keen to clear out tech debt

Cons

Devote an inordinate amount of time navigating around the key political players Decisions are not made transparently, and power is held within the top few players Engineering / Prod top Management, without much deliberation nor consultation, make hasty decisions, which we do not understand. Two-way communication and feedback is heavily discourage, resulting in fear of giving management suggestions and ideas. There has been a few colleagues who have tried pushing for organization change and improvements, but was quickly terminated - it is very unfortunate. Management is trying hard and studying Kim Scott's Radical Candor, but power still lies with the few people, and not "from the truth" Lack of 401K matching

I am sorry that we have not created a good environment for you at Toast. This is certainly not what we strive for, and I believe that transparency, communication and candor are very important. We aren't always perfect, so thank you for the feedback - it is an important part of how we will grow and improve. I have recently been talking to other product and engineering leaders about how we can improve communication both through our Directors, Managers and Team Leads, but also through direct communication, similar to the Ideas Team that is referenced in Radical Candor. I would love to get your feedback directly if you are willing to chat, or I would appreciate if you would share with your manager, a colleague or our Product/Eng HR business partner. This will help us to get to a root cause faster and improve the Toast culture for everyone. -Steve Fredette

Pros

Looks fun, good laptop, things to learn, FOOD!, coffee and everything nice. Lot of social events

Cons

They except you to know everything about the company norms, procedures and work during the second week itself. Expect to forget personal life. Work is 'fun' and the PTO is a nice way to tempt you thinking there will be unlimited time off. But then, you need to request and wait for approval and later negotiate the days.

I apologize for the experience that you had at Toast. In particular, we are investing heavily to improve the on-boarding experience across the company. If you are comfortable sharing more, I'd love to connect directly. You should have my email address and I look forward to connecting. Best, Chris
