Good tech but bad decisions

Pros

PTO is un metered, engineers here are some of the best and brightest, code base is moving in positive direction fixing long seated issues.

Cons

Culture became toxic during COVID and remote, 401k contributions only receive half matches, company hires top tech roles from outside and never promotes from within. Companywide events, e.g., the holiday party, keep getting canceled last minute due to COVID-19. In spite, year round, C-level execs and the marketing team flood Linked In with pics of themselves drinking booze with customers at after parties all over the country. OK, so, is COVID a problem or is it not?

We agree that our engineers are some of the best in the business. We are constantly striving to promote from within; when skills and strengths align with open positions. Our managers work with their teams to provide constructive feedback for development and career advancement. Unfortunately, the ongoing pandemic has presented challenges for Total Expert Company-wide events. We strive to balance the benefits of gathering, with protecting the health and safety of our employees, especially given any rise in cases.

Pros

The colleagues at Total Expert were some of the best that I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. A willingness to collaborate and work together to help resolve customer needs is appreciated in a fast paced environment lacking constructive leadership. Self motivation can help recognize and develop skills/processes that are critical to survive at TE and position yourself for a better option after.

Cons

Open gossip among existing leadership results in colleagues, departments and other leaders being considered toxic and/or lackluster. A lack of maturity and failure to openly listen to employees (at large, not inner circle) creates a lot of friction and bankrupts trust. This “upper circle” has generated an openly mocked culture among employees. Your best resources for career growth and success at TE isn’t the assigned leadership.

CEO is an incompetent SalesBro

Pros

People are trying to genuinely make a good change at Total Expert. The board is finally hiring good leaders and replacing the old ones, however severe damage by the old leaders is still in repair across the company.

Cons

The CEO originally brought in a bunch of leaders to the org to just do whatever he says. He treats the marketing team likes it's his own sandbox and it shows. Every town hall he communicates a message of "dominating" the market and it feels like a gross rip off of wolf of wall street. The CTO was also a total sales bro with no skill to manage teams effectively with complete trust, and both of them only understand management as a fear based "do what I tell you to do" mentality. Lots of overtime, too much to do and all of it is bad quality work because we never got time to finish anything properly. Old leadership was extremely manipulative and employees are still trying to unlearn bad behaviors, even with good, competent leaders coming into the org. Also no 401k.
