Pros

Work from home Benefits were good but have been clamped down Employee Groups

Cons

Felt constantly watched working from home. They monitor everything you do, even searching for something on google, had a manager throw it in my face that’s how I know. Management is full of bullying and was immature, their whole “were in this together and let’s lift each other up” attitude was just that, words to fill the air and console employees that they were being cared about. Saw a lot of quiet firing happen, they’d take work from you and then ask you what you’ve been doing and even if you found a way to do your job it didn’t stop them. I witnessed a whole team subtly attack a team member of theirs with sneaky and underhanded jabs during a “team” meeting, their manager even went as far to insult their personal life. Poor soul laughed it off but you could see the hurt in their eyes when it registered. Asked them about it later to find out it was going on for a while, a week later I found out that person was canned unjustified. The team they worked for was vicious. Place is full of sharks. Everyone is looking to point the finger where they can especially management. Glad I left. Whatever PR/HR person reads this, don’t bother commented on my review. Take care.

Pros

At this point, the only pro to working here is the great people you meet. But even that is diminishing - all the dedicated, hard working, intelligent, and friendly people have been either left or been laid off!

Cons

I would like to preface this by saying that I believe a lot of the 4 and 5 star reviews I’ve seen recently on Glassdoor are fake. However, I would not be surprised by the company doing all they can to present a false narrative of how their company is really looked at by current employees. I had the pleasure of working for the company when it was under the CEO Jim Peck, prior to Chris Cartwright. In the last 4 years, since Mr. Cartwright has been in his position, I can slowly but surely see this company heading to hell in a handbasket. 1. There is a steep and insulting inequity in the salary this company is willing to pay employees. 2. The leadership, VPs, Executives and so-on throughout corporate have made it very clear that they do not care about their employees. Will not discuss plans to adjust compensation, will not discuss plans to address the quickly growing number of disgruntled employees, and even went so far as to tell everyone at the company that “if you don’t like what we’re doing then you can leave”. Absolutely uncaring, unprofessional and cold to the core. 3. There are people who have worked for this company well over 15, 20, 25+ years who have always been happy, supported, and felt a sense of purpose. It’s no mystery what the real issue is when you consider the amount of unhappy folks here, I can throw a stone and hit someone right now who is currently experiencing at least 2 of the following - underpayment, no reward good work (only being handed more work), lack of resources and support, increased workload/expectations with continuous layoffs, attrition through the roof. I could write a novel on the drastically negative changes that I’ve seen come to fruition here. Over the course of 4 years Chris Cartwright and the other Chiefs, Executives, VPs, and so on have slowly but surely changed the entire reputation of TU for the worse. What they have done in the last 4 years to destroy TU, would take 2-3X that amount of time to undo. It’s very sad to see - especially as a dedicated worker who has always put my best foot forward and advocated for this company. Never again at this point or in the future would I EVER suggest that anyone work here, and I highly suggest that those who do find their way out immediately. This company does not care about us and has made that very clear.

I miss Jim Peck and Old TU

Pros

I started just after TransUnion's last CEO, Jim Peck, came to TransUnion. I remember the IPO and it was clear that Jim was a "growth" guy - I bought in and put as much as I could into the ESPP, and beyond a fulfilling career at TU I also managed to do pretty well on the stock. I liked the culture, which was friendly but professional. I liked that the company was growing under Jim's leadership. In this industry, if you're not growing, you're dying. The "old TU" was admirable, comp was decent for the area, work-life was reasonable unless there was an understandable deadline, colleagues were fairly close. The benefits were on-par with what I expected coming in as a skilled professional, and it was fun to be part of something that had a growth trajectory. Many of the managers hired during this time are decent but the newer ones are not.

Cons

The current leadership team is terrible. Their priorities are politics, woke company culture, saving the environment, saying their piece on newsworthy events, basically everything except their actual jobs. It's like your C suite being exclusively the Twitter feed from HuffPost contributors. Jim was an affable fellow, and I bumped into him down in the gym fairly often and he seemed like the sort of person you'd pick to run a company like TU. The current CEO is awkward, unrelatable, and almost painful to listen to during the all-hands meetings, which again have become a skippable event because it's just Diversity Hot Takes instead of actual useful information. I heard less from Jim, but what he said was worth listening to - I hear from our current C suite constantly and it's nothing of substance. It has definitely had an impact on the culture. I've seen a lot of talented people either phone it in or leave. I wouldn't say TU is at "mass exodus" yet, but I've noticed a lot of departures in key groups and positions lately. Their replacements take longer to fill than the old days, and the replacements coming in aren't the same caliber of leadership or knowledge as the last bunch. The office is still shut down "due to COVID" and you need ridiculous levels of approval to go into the office. The leadership team, when they're not trumpeting the D & I party line, insist it's not safe to come into the office - well, my team has been having weekly team meetings in each other's houses in the 'burbs for months because we're just not as effective totally-remote, so maybe they should just open it back up? The culture is getting bad enough that I've started to look for other opportunities. It will take years after the current CEO moves on to recover any semblance of a good culture at TU again.
