Pros

Great people in my location (Plano, TX). Provided lots of opportunity for career advancement, although the pay increases sometimes lagged behind the promotions. Also provided opportunities for development of skills that I will carry for the rest of my career.

Cons

Pay ranges were low by industry standard. More concerning is the change in direction starting in 2015, when the CEO (who's a lawyer) reacted to a lawsuit by suspending almost all marketing and sales to conduct an audit and product review. Understandable, but the process took so long that nothing was ever re-started. Ultimately, this led to the dissolution of entire business units and product lines - the most profitable ones, at that - and thousands of layoffs (myself included). The company has permanently lost a substantial percentage of its net worth, and there's little internal confidence that it can ever be recovered.

Chaos and Uncertainty

Pros

Decent benefits including tuition reimbursement and pension, which you don't see so much of anymore.

Cons

Constant change and uncertainty makes it hard to do your job well. This is a very unhappy place to work where employees are constantly fearful of losing their job and duties and responsibilities are changed often and without notice. There are a lot of psychological games being played in this organization that is not healthy for employees.

Never, ever work here

Pros

A good place if you're in to "skating by" and collecting a paycheck without ever really advancing - great work/life balance, low stress environment.

Cons

Absolutely no culture of cultivating talent. Every few years there are layoffs, yet they will hire interns or outsource to India as though their people are interchangeable components. Senior management seems oblivious to the amount of institutional knowledge they have pushed out the door, and as people too mediocre to go elsewhere accumulate, all they see is less and less performance for the same dollar - which in turn leads to more layoffs and reorgs, and so on. There is literally no future or advancement here - if you get an offer at a particular level, ask yourself if you'd be comfortable being at that same level in 5 years, and if not don't bother. Actually, don't bother regardless - odds are good you won't make it longer than 5 years anyway.
