Pros

Very client and customer driven, very friendly helpful staff, get it done work ethic.

Cons

Very incompetent management, commonly directly lie to customers, regulators, keep false records. Attitude is do the work, ignore the consequences. Don't ask, don't tell - never innovate or point out issues, cover them up and ignore them. Don't embrace new techniques, move back to older tools and technologies.

Pros

They are still getting investment $$$ from the parent company (Aegon). But one has to wonder how long that will last with the level of dysfunction...

Cons

I've spent 25+ years in IT and seen many struggling IT organizations as an employee and as a consultant, but this one is just absurd. ZERO trust between IT and Business. Full CYA mode from the top down. They use all the right terminology (collaboration, one team, etc.) but have no interest in actually doing any of it. I was literally reprimanded by my VP for daring to have a collaborative meeting with business leaders. The first day I was employed (and MANY times afterward), I was warned not to trust the two key business leaders I was supposed to be aligned to. As a result, there is no long-term or strategic thinking and TONS of technical debt that everyone just wants to kick down the road. And they place absolutely NO value on technical expertise. They want the cheapest body they can put in the seat. Quote from the CTO: "We see no value in having SMEs."

Pros

The best reasons to work at Transamerica are the 401k and pension. However, due to 3 and 4 year vesting periods on the pension and 401k, many people leave before they get vested. Pay can be decent at the start, but the growth levels of your salary will be minimal. If you want to be downtown, the office at 18th and Cali is decent location.

Cons

--Recruiters will lie to get you in the door --Managers will tell you how you should think about everything --Work/life balance is terrible --Extremely high turnover rate --The company is focused on hiring low talent contractors for MANY roles --Promotions, training, career growth all non-existent in the company --Remote policy is inconsistent and arbitrary --Seniority rewarded more than work is --"Company performance" will impact your salary and bonus more than your own, personal performance --Benefits vesting periods used to hold employees hostage for 4 years
