Pros

Well known company. Pretty good benefits. I really like a lot of people that I worked with.

Cons

Office redesign to open concept with tiny desks and no privacy - right at a time when multiple studies from Harvard and others are showing that this lowers productivity. 26 pay periods makes no sense for exempt salary employees, forces you to budget two extra paychecks per year rather than just enjoying your salary twice a month on a 24-pay system. Basically no perks or office amenities you would find at a competing multi-billion dollar carrier. No gym, no snacks, no coffee, employees have to pool their own funds just to buy a keurig. No employee appreciation events, no outings, employees had to bring all food for holiday parties - no sponsorship from management. Minimal work anniversary recognition. Not much attempt to make you feel like a part of a team or family. There are some great people that work at Travelers, however there is a strong ego from senior management - almost a sense of “you’re lucky to be working here”, apparently unaware that there is stiff competition for experienced commercial insurance professionals. Recruiters call multiple times per month. Essentially, you can work your butt off, have a great production year and find yourself wondering if anyone noticed.

Pros

Benefits and Salary were good, for a single person.

Cons

I gained MORE respect as an Independent Contractor (in another State) before I was offered, and accepted, a Staff Position as an Outside Property Claims Rep. As an I/A, Agents were e-mailing the Desk Adjuster raving about my great Customer Service and commenting on how THIS is the kind of service WE want from the Claims Departments! Plus, Management wanted to make an Example of my Reports! But once on board, I could do NOTHING right. Found HEAVY Micro Management running rampant. Some managers looking to bail to other departments! Others playing Putt Putt Golf in the isle ways. Apparently, Unit Managers were told to focus using Tunnel Vision when just passing on negative comments to the field adjusters who were understaffed and overloaded with empty promises of help that was never going to arrive. Travelers prides itself on Do MORE with much LESS and expect all of your Drive Time to be considered as Personal Time! And NO Over Time Pay...

Cons

High expectations, but who doesn't want to be pushed if you work hard and are paid well for it.
