Pros

Managers are nice and training was very thorough. Pay was okay as well

Cons

My brother past away from a motorcycle accident and when I came back to work I had NO HELP. We talk to customers that are rude and mean every day and even after bereavement it’s a lot. Besides nice letters from team members and managers (which was very thoughtful) you are expected to just jump right in taking calls. After miss transferring calls do to depression and no help from management they decided to terminate me. In a very unprofessional way. A team meeting for a few mins and no apologies for everything going on in my personal life to help me in my future at travelers

Pros

Coworkers, some management, and benefits.

Cons

This was a company I was proud to work for and hoped to retire at but in the last couple years the company and specifically the Florida claims department has gone downhill in so many ways. There has always been high expectations but Travelers refuses to acknowledge the need for better training and proper staffing especially when we are told we received double the work in the first quarter of this year but are continually told we are “fully staffed”. The quality expectations have remained the same despite the lack of help and more than double the work.

Pros

I’ve been with Travelers a long time, and I’ve never seen a mass layoff. When the business takes a dip, they usually find you another line of business to continue your employment rather than kick you out the door with a cardboard box of personal items. It’s one of the few companies that still offers an actual pension. Co-workers are usually good people with decent ethics and a desire to succeed. There is a good amount of paid time off.

Cons

Company is old and change happens at glacial speed. They have blinders on when it comes to knowing how to attract younger people into the insurance business. Allowing full time remote work (like the competitors) may help, but somehow they think there is a huge benefit for seasoned employees to drive into the office a few days per week. Turnover in staff has been high over the last few years, and it takes forever to “backfill” vacant positions because new college grads want more than commuting to an office to sit in a cubicle. Nepotism and favoritism. They tell new hires that this is a pay for performance company. It’s not necessarily so for everyone. It takes a few years to figure that out. Very stressful. Not great for your general health. Eating lunch in front of your computer, not taking lunch because of a claim review with a client, not taking breaks because you have just a few more things to finish, etc. Perfect recipe for obesity, diabetes, heart disease and depression. The pay is nothing to get super excited about. You may get a bonus and a 3 percent raise if you knock the ball out of the park. It’s somewhat disheartening for those who had to step up and cover for people who left the company and manage their desks while leadership tries to find replacements.
