Pros

The PTO and benefits package is generous. You can work from home.

Cons

This used to be a good place to work. When I first started, you could easily make $5k - $7k in commission. But they recently changed the bonus structure, so don't expect to make much money. Workload has increased. Sales reps are now expected to do cold calling and spend hours of your shift in the customer service queue ie answering questions about denied claims. These changes take away from the time we need to hit our sales numbers. The new policy is terrible for members, so it is difficult to sell. Someone had the brilliant idea of getting rid of deductibles on our new plan. There is a reason why deductibles exist in the insurance industry! Without one, prices are astronomically expensive. Leaders are out of touch with reality, saying things like "if owners understand the value, then they won't care about the price." But very few people can pay $400/month for a puppy's insurance. They can choose a cheaper plan that only covers at 50%, but that leaves them vulnerable to still putting their dog down if they ever have a large bill.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and thank you for the work that you are doing on the sales team. As a company, we value transparency and courage, and feedback like yours can only help our products get better. I recommend also utilizing TruFeedback and the product policies category to continue to be vocal about improvements that can be made.

Lipstick on a Pig

Pros

Decent pay (when you're hired), good PTO, and IF you are in Seattle, the office has a lot of perks. You are buried under all the false pretenses of an "award-winning employer" and can't see the forest for the trees. Everyone is nice, until the monthly fires start.

Cons

Where. to. B E G I N?? First, this company touts itself as a "data-driven", "tech-centric" company. Nope - you can provide leadership with data regarding what you think are next best steps or ideas for your team to work on to improve team KPIs and they will ignore you and the data. Every month there is a new fire for everyone to solve which requires all hands on deck. What we aren't told is that while we are spending all our time fixing problems others created, we are still expected to handle the standard work we needed to take care of (as if we work 24/7.) No matter what, you dropped the ball (and you are expected to pick it up.) Ideas and projects are requested based on instinct, instead of data and facts. When the project ultimately fails (or fails to launch), you are forced to either "fix" the broken project or ignore the results and move on. When these efforts inevitably fail, our monthly bonus takes a hit. Because, as mentioned above, you can't work on everything at once. Also, you don't get a pay raise (and if so, you aren't likely to see a COL increase.) Even in Seattle, where a large portion of businesses are giving raises for at least the COL, Trupanion just says "that's what bonuses are for". And when you inevitably don't meet your impossible goals, you don't get your full bonus (which you are now dependent on because of inflation.) Managers and Directors are hired consistently, and no matter how great they may initially seem, they fall victim to leaderships pressure to just do things "the Trupanion way." And, get ready for be re-organized every 6 months, because after a few months of "no progress", your team gets shuffled around in hopes that the new org will be able to fulfill leaderships exact requests with their intended results.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with Trupanion. I am glad to hear that you appreciated the pay and benefits, but it sounds like your experience with your team leadership had opportunities for improvement.
