Pros

The dogs and individual contributors are GREAT. I stayed far longer than I should've because of them and because I do truly believe in the mission and think the product is the best on the market.

Cons

Truly a soul sucking, miserable place to work. Marketers are not allowed to use their brains at all. Our job is to take orders from rude, disrespectful company leaders who are not marketers, and if you try to use your brain and provide any thought into how to make a campaign/piece actually successful, you are fired. You are a glorified Xerox machine. The Chief Product Officer is a veterinarian, yet for some reason he makes all marketing decisions. He should have absolutely no say in any consumer marketing, but for some reason, his word is the final word and all you can do is cross your fingers that our regulatory compliance team nixes his ideas. From him and field sales leaders/reps (mind you sales, not marketing), we're told what words to use, what images to use, and how to design everything. Want to use your education and years of education? Look elsewhere! You're treated like dirt and given no respect. Hell, they fired an entire team in one day who had no leader for over a year and outsourced all of their positions (this includes a woman on maternity leave who gave birth less than a week prior.) Honestly, save yourself the anti-depressants and years of therapy. Do NOT work here. Leadership is woefully incompetent. It truly feels like an authoritarian state. Disagree with anything? You're fired. We are given no resources, no means to contribute expertise to our work, we're constantly putting out fires that could've been prevented, oh, and we're bonused based on enrollment metrics and yet we cannot run the tests and campaigns we believe in and instead are told to go in directions we know will not work (and surprise, they don't). When those campaigns don't work, of course it is our fault even though it was a creative decision we vehemently opposed. I could really keep going, but seriously, trust me on this, do not apply for a marketing role within this company.

I want to first take the opportunity to thank you for your open feedback and for the time you spent working with us at Trupanion. Second, I want to say it was truly tough to read your feedback about your time in the marketing department. I won’t use this forum to address specifics about why decisions were made or what that meant for you; some very difficult business decisions were made though and that impacts peoples’ lives. What I will say is that we do really care about our team members, including those we’ve had to say goodbye to. Given your tenure at the company, I’d imagine you have a lot ideas on what you think we can do better. If you’re open to it, please email me directly to set up a time to talk. You can reach me at bryn.lansdowne@trupanion.com.

Pros

Management is responsive to questions and concerns, very approachable about anything. Encourages open communication between team members. Company is doing very well handling the abrupt transition to WFH and supporting all team members during this time. Execs holding frequent zoom meetings to answer any and all questions from employees, have reassured everyone that there will be no layoffs due to Covid19. Company is actually doing great and meeting/exceeding goals during this time and actively hiring.

Cons

Management is under staffed and very busy, so it can take a while to hear back.

Thank you so much for your feedback! We're glad to hear you've had such a good experience with Trupanion so far - especially considering the Covid craziness! Hearing from you that the zoom meetings and other support from the exec team is helping you through this time means the world; we want nothing more than to help our employees stay connected. That being said, we hear your concern about manager to employee ratios. If you have more specific thoughts on this we'd really like to hear them. Please reach out to PeopleOps@trupanion.com to speak with someone about your insights. Thanks again for your valuable feedback!
