Starting here feels like being thrown out of a plane with a parachute—only one string attached. The training barely scratches the surface, and unless you find someone genuinely willing to guide you, it’s easy to feel lost and overwhelmed.
You’re expected to know things you were never taught, and when mistakes happen (as they inevitably will in such an environment), you’re often made the scapegoat. They say you’re given six months to adjust, but you can be let go in a day with no warning, no feedback, and no real support.
There’s little accountability on their part when it comes to development. Management rarely gives constructive feedback or direction unless you happen to work under one of the few truly good managers.
On top of that, I’ve witnessed clear signs of racial bias. While I try to stay focused and not let it get to me, the disparities in how people are treated become more obvious over time.
The technology is outdated, which frustrates both employees and customers, and unfortunately, Whitehall seems to make things more difficult instead of better. Overall, it’s a tough environment, especially if you’re someone who learns best through proper guidance and support.
