Pros

There were NO pros at this agency.

Cons

Training was conducted by an a new employee working there one month, who happened to have recent experience working at another agency as an intern. Supervisor had absolutely no knowledge on how to run a Superior Court Investigative Unit, and could not give consistent direction. Recommendations for disposition were ultimately made by management based on finances, and a need for body count in a boot camp they have difficulty funding. Judges decide on recommendation prior to knowing all the facts and needs of the child. This is the lowest paying county in California. Probation Officers were paid almost minimum wage, and in fact some were on food stamps. Administrative staff do not support investigators and are babied by Directors. The workload is not managed and working at home with no overtime is expected. The Union there is a waste of money and has no accountability to officers. Additionally, It was apparent that juveniles of color were treated differently by the Courts.

Pros

Flexible, make your own schedule, if you becomes good friends with management or become the "management pet" easy job or exempt from job duties...

Cons

Unfair with job distribution, favoritism among employees, very little room for promotion, lack of motivation, unprofessionalism from management. Part-time not an option.

Pros

Good retirement package. Two weeks vacation after probation is over with and up to five weeks. All the holidays off. Paid sick leave. So-so medical, dental, vision, prescription. Co-workers can be great. Secure employment. Depending on department, pretty relaxed atmosphere.

Cons

Paperwork galore. Your typical government agency although not as bad as the state or fed. Power tripping upper management who couldn't get a job elsewhere, but county took them. Take a long time for ANYTHING. Waste of taxpayer money always. Corruption. Favoritism.
