Pros

Very flexible schedule - the hours are actually fantastic for students. The coworkers are also very nice, I've made a lot of friends here. Also, seeing the freshmen is cool, because they're very sweet.

Cons

So. Many. This job has a pretty high turnover rate - people get hired, see how awful it is to work here, and quit after one quarter. A lot of the times we're understaffed, and end up having to stay 30 minutes to and hour+ past our out time, which really sucks as a student. Also, the managers can be rude at times, snapping at you when you have to call out of work (when it's a legitimate excuse! Such as illness). Also, that's another thing. Everyone. Calls. Out. Especially when they're scheduled to work in the dish room, which is a disgusting nightmare. The work is boring, tedious and kind of painful. We're overworked and underpaid. Paid minimum wage but expected to put in extra work, when the work itself sucks. Doing the same bending, and moving motions gets old after a while. Expect to serve food for 4 hours straight, wash tables, refill napkins, handle nasty used dishes, stand for hours, carry heavy things, be treated like a robot by managers. Working late nights SUCKS. You get out anywhere from 1AM to 1:30 AM. I wish I could quit, but I'm poor and need money.

A Mediocre place

Pros

Good benefits. Lots of training opportunities

Cons

I worked at other places in the UC system and I found UC Davis to be the most mediocre of the ones I have worked. I found most of my colleagues are very adverse to any change whatsoever. They are mostly interested in maintaining the status quo and riding out the days til they can collect their pensions. You just don't feel inspired to excel like you might at some of the other top tier UC's and rather are encouraged just to keep things the way they are even if it is a wasteful and inaccurate way to work. Additionally the summers are intensely hot.
