Pros

The small campus provides lots of opportunities to direct your own trajectory be it teaching a class, getting involved in service, or just lots of interaction with faculty. Additionally, the remote location (we are literally surrounded by cow fields) means that grad student salaries go much farther.

Cons

There is only so much to do outside of the university. The university is miles and miles from the downtown area. It takes ~ 2 hours to get to more exciting locals such as San Francisco, Monterey, or Yosemite.
