Pros

Benefits, tuition reimbursement, A.M. and P.M. shift allow you to choose which hours work for your schedule, and there is room to advance from within.

Cons

Unfair treatment, underpaid, over worked, incompetent management, backstabbing, no communication, hourly workers are treated like they have no brain, and management does not listen to any suggestions.

Pros

Great health, dental, and vision benefits. Loading/unloading is a good workout. Union workers are very well protected and can get away with a lot if they know how to work the system. Can be a very friendly and social environment when everyone is in a good mood and the work is distributed fairly. Many opportunities to participate in charitable events such as food drives, special Olympics, and to donate to organizations such as United Way. Overall sense of accomplishment and teamwork when the job is done right.

Cons

The work can be extremely physically demanding. The hub is pretty dangerous and is not a good place to be if you are clumsy or incompetent, injuries are fairly frequent and once every so often deadly. There is a clear separation between union and management, which often causes altercations. At our hub, it is basically all young supervisors just trying to get their paycheck and go home micro-managing long time hourly union workers. Many of which are trying to get every second paid possible, and others who just want to do their job and go home. Sadly enough, as a part time supervisor my job is pretty much to get the job done with the least hours worked possible, which is the basic grounds for the whole union/management war. Upper management is constantly asking for better results, while the workers are constantly being pushed to work harder. Luckily, I AM the type of person that can leave work at work, so I really don't lose any sleep over the harsh conditions in the hub. It's usually only a 5 hour shift so, cheers to that.
