Pros

The work is relatively straightforward and manageable, if a little repetitive. The hourly pay is good, and the hiring process was quick.

Cons

Apparently, Human Resources does not communicate with management about their staffing needs. I was told upon starting I would be working five days a week, but that I would be sent home early if there wasn't enough work at the facility until I worked long enough to join the Union. Instead, I worked only one day a week and I was sent home several days in a row without being allowed to work at all, due to several "slow" days. Finally, I was informally laid off by my supervisor without a clear reason. Considering said supervisor had spent my whole time there referring to me by the wrong name, I'm not sure he had a reason. Human Resources agreed situation was unfair, but they never followed up, even though they promised to. It seems Human Resources/Recruitment hired too many people without asking management if they needed the people. At one point during my training period I was sent home because management couldn't be bothered to find someone to train me. Other people in my training class encountered similar issues. Even as they lay people off for the excuse of overstaffing, they're still hiring new people.

Pros

-Your co-workers are usually pretty good people who work extremely hard- building camaraderie -Sort of flexible schedule that allows you to go to school or work another job; that is, if your supervisor likes you -Full health benefits for entire family (>9 months of employment)-paid by employer -You get paid (not a lot) to workout and you will build muscle (if you remember to eat) -Almost impossible to get fired unless you steal something or fight someone

Cons

-You will sweat, be sore, and you will be forced to use your health benefits due to injuries/illness -Be ready up for never-ending battles with management- all the way up the ladder -Management will harass you constantly; esp when you try to take bathroom breaks -You will lose sleep from the early AM start times; esp during peak season -Terribly dirty environment- black dust gets into your nose, mouth and lungs -NO air conditioning and usually no heat either; fans at loading doors are a joke -You provide your own work equipment and clothing (gloves, boots, back-brace, etc) -No forklifts, dollies, or other lifting equipment is provided for unloading -Must go through security before and after every shift- due to theft
