Stay in Union, Chelmsford, MA
Pros
If you are in the union, you have Job Protection, Better Pay, Better Hours, Better Benefits and will make more than the management folks who wasted their time and money getting a college education.
Cons
Management works incredible hours, 12 to 14 is the norm in operations and some staff jobs, You have no job protection, you have to pay a significant amount of your income towards your benefits. Upper management is scarred to take on the union so they roll over and give in on the contract to avoid a strike then run and retire.. Many of the "new Management" are fresh out of college, in debt, and are trapped. There is no training any longer. Take a CBT and listen in on a conference call and you're trained. All the "old school" management is retiring and the newer folks are leaving in droves. I can't wait to retire. Unlike the Union folks, I'll have to get a job when I retire since UPS no longer provides their management with a livable retirement. It just supplements the job they have to get by paying the benefits.. My recommendation, either stay in the Union or work somewhere else.
