Great company for some, OK for most, horrible for others
Pros
Benefits for hourly employees include vision and dental. Lot of great coworkers. Fast-paced work environment so the time generally flies during shift. Get plenty of exercise without going to the gym.
Cons
Benefits for management is ok if you are single, but costs an arm and a leg if you have dependents. Unionized - Tends to help retain poorly performing employees more than anything and can be a source of rift between management and hourly when some outspoken employees start waving the battle flags around. Schedule - Most employees will work early morning or late night hours; very few day shift positions unless you are a driver. Be prepared to work holidays and have no time off granted during the peak season of Nov.-Jan. High potential supervisors more likely to burn out than be promoted - promotion is based on referrals rather than merit and one doesn't always lead to the other. Many great and effective people move up the ranks, but quite a few not so great nor effective people do as well, unfortunately. Moving from part-time status to full-time takes a very long time both for drivers and managers. Though with the right connections, a supervisor can move up very quickly.
