Pros

Great benefits and work life balance. Can't beat them. No cold calling for business. Good but not great base pay.

Cons

Where to start... Middle of 2016 USAA shut down face to face wealth management. In the past 12 months we've gone from 230 wealth managers to 130 as of this post with many more on the way out. USAA upper management has lost touch with how to run a business, it's an awful work environment with absolutely no trust. Some new fire comes up every week. We got all new upper leadership about 18 months ago and it's been terrible ever since. Pay cuts are next on the docket. Very vague info but it's definitely coming. Job is becoming very micromanaged across all sites with appearance that it too will be a call center job. Crazy. Writing is on the wall that USAA doesn't know how to operate in wealth advising and is moving the business into the digital arena, targeting younger people with little in assets meanwhile letting attrition happen without bringing in replacements. The company has seen over $250 million in net managed money alone leave YTD in 2017 and its not stopping soon. I feel awful for the members in wealth management because it's very apparent leadership doesn't care about them which is completely counter to the wealth industry. You normally would want to talk to people with money and cater your business to maintain those relationships. Another huge warning sign: very unethical practices happening to those who have recently left or been fired, marking their employment history for things leadership advised it's employees to do in best practice sessions.

Pros

The Benefits of course, PTO, health etc! The home office has several gyms with sauna, steam rooms and they give you clothes to workout in!

Cons

Claims: Office politics...All about who you know. No guidance. If you want to learn more about other areas you have to figure it out yourself. Its not encouraged to explore other departments.... No developmental plan. Metrics, metrics, metrics.

Pros

Benefits: 8% match on 401k + some extra funds they put in a "retirement plus" account. Most people I've worked with are really positive and encouraging.

Cons

The Java development environment (The RSA IDE, running in virtual machine, with Websphere) is terribly slow to work in. Fortunately I have worked on a team where I was able to mostly program iOS, Node.js, and Python. But my team is not the norm.
