Pros

Serving the military community -- they need and deserve all the help they can get when it comes to financial services. USAA does a great job embedding employees with this community to really understand them.

Cons

They've lost their way -- they're really no better than any other insurer from a product perspective, and their leadership has become as petty, political and protective as any other big corporation.

Some good people, but an overall feeling of decline

Pros

The Christmas bonus is a nice touch. Some of the benefits are a little better than peers, but this is rapidly disappearing. There are some parts of the company that aren't overworked, but you never know where the layoffs are going to hit next

Cons

Top leadership is gutting the company culture and turning USAA into another generic financial services company run by empty suits from outside. Very bureaucratic. It's committees all the way down. Radical marxist brainwashing is non stop from HR, weirdly juxtaposed with symbols of patriotism.
