Pros

Outstanding benefits, very competative salaries. Overwhelming majority of employees truly understand the mission and are highly engaged.

Cons

Joe Robles is the last of the "old gaurd". Newer executive management doesn't truly share his vision, ethical beliefs and dedication to the overall employee population. Good Generals know that you need to really take care of the troops if you want them to fight the battle. While Joe truly believes in the motto, "do the right thing because it's the right thing to do", few of the "newbies" in executive management really buy into it. For them, it's about making money...and then more money and who looks best doing it. Unfortunately, HR was the worst area, but it's getting better thanks only to Joe. Had he not been there, I'm convinced it would have continued to get worse and ruin even more careers than it did. Fortunately, I got out at a good time. Others not so lucky.

Pros

Employee benefits were pretty hard to beat.

Cons

USAA really works like a cast system. No one ever feels equal and you basically have to "pull your way out of the trenches" to get a decent schedule if you are not management, executive or other glamorized positions. The upper management is blind to the working conditions of the CSR's who are essentially the foundation for USAA claims.

Pros

USAA definitely believes in the 3 legged stool. They take care is their employees by having the following benefits: 8% dollar for dollar match for the 401K, a health incentive program to earn back money paid towards healthcare, $5000 towards approved education costs and even more for Masters programs, energy and quiet rooms during breaks. The training is very extensive so you are very knowledgeable with your job. Overall a very caring environment where you are recognized for a job well done. USAA places high importance on U-Count surveys so they can continue to provide an even better workplace for their employees.

Cons

High call volumes in policy service area with increasing membership numbers. Time off for your first year is highly unlikely as time off is seniority and performance based.
