Pros

USAA has a great culture and definitely lives by its mission statement. The benefits, vacation, tuition reimbursement and bonuses are fantastic and are the main reason why many employees choose to stay. In addition the people who work here are some of the nicest and friendliest people you will meet.

Cons

USAA is primarily a call center. Most entry level positions are working on the phones taking back to back calls. I came to this company thinking I could at least get my foot in the door and eventually move into a different position but with so many talented and educated employees I found advancing to be extremely difficult. The company does not promote from within and it was very frustrating to see them hiring externally for many of the vacant positions. As previously mentioned, this is a call center environment. Your breaks and 35 minute lunches are set for you. Be prepared to be micromanaged. The environment can be stressful which is why many employees are on FMLA. As for vacation, you bid on your days off a year in advance which can be difficult since you can't predict the future.

Pros

The Health Benefits, Vacation, and Bonuses. The training process is very well organized. The first day on the job your health insurance starts and you start earning vacation time on your first paycheck. The best benefit that helped me was USAA gives employees 10k a year to pay for a Bachelors, Master and even Doctorate degree.

Cons

Micro-managed a lot of new hires can not handle being told when and how long they can take a lunch or break. You will be paid well but remember you will be expected to perform and produce for the company.
