Pros

Good benefits, a small amount of people left that still care.

Cons

Large amount of attrition has drained the company of talent, falling off from almost every list of best places to work has made almost impossible to get good candidates. Promotions only happen once a year and it's less than 3% of the employees, so they are practically non existent. I think we are passed the turning point to get better, you need some talent to recognize other talent otherwise it's just luck.

Pros

For a financial services company USAA is actually pretty advanced in the technology we use/implement. I've worked for software companies that are not as far along as USAA in devops, devsecops or full stack development and SRE.

Cons

USAA is horrible at retiring old technology and the lines of business refuse to spend any money on tech debt, they only want to invest in the new and shiny but we are drowning in support costs, aging infrastructure and rapidly dwindling tribal knowledge on how to support the old stuff. Since Wayne and Amala took over the culture has rapidly deteriorated and lack of trust in our CEO and senior leadership is the worst i have ever witnessed.

Pros

- Incredible 401k match. USAA will match 8% to your 4%. - Good work life balance - Dedicated employees - Easy work

Cons

All of the perks of joining are being stripped away 1-by-1. USAA doesn't pay a lot, nor is it located in great places, so the perks and culture is what MADE it great. Things have gotten worse with the Wayne Peacock CEO era. Going remote was the best thing to ever happen to the software engineers and productivity increased immensely, yet they are asking all employees to return to work 4 days a week. It just doesn't make sense.
