Pros
The mission to support troops and their families is beyond rewarding. Those at centers (a.k.a. in the field) experience this first-hand on a daily basis and it's a motivation to keep doing good things. Fellow employees in the field (around the world) and some at the headquarters are great people to know and to work with. Some volunteers are true gems and it's amazing to see how many selfless servants donate their time day after day, year after year, through good times and crises.
Cons
- Toxic management and no truly anonymous/protective system to report issues/problems. - Too many middle managers - Field is understaffed - A culture of favoritism - Disconnect between headquarters and the field - Disconnect between Core Values and actually practicing them - Extremely poor internal communications - Ever increasing demands and decreasing resources to meet such demands - Ever increasing micromanagement - Extremely difficult and occasionally impossible to "do the right thing" for troops/families, even volunteers - Not enough compensation for field staff - Difficult to find work-life balance and meet job demands - Little training
