The company is a Gulag

Pros

As a customer they have good products at a good price but as an employee, do not even bother to apply

Cons

The company is apparently into Data Mining prospective employees as they rarely if ever hire but always have jobs posted. Don't waste your time. First you take 6 tests at home before they will even talk to you on the phone. After the phone interview, they invite you in without telling you that you will spend another hour testing before your 10 minute interview. Before you get home they send you an email stating you are not qualified. I sold their line for 7 years and have a B.A. I believe Age Bias is an issue at the company.

Parent-child paradigm ruins the culture

Pros

Customer service, the benefits and the beauty. These are the high points that have resulted in a 3 rating rather than something lower. But don't be blinded by the money and the beauty--there is a lot that's rotten in the state of Uline.

Cons

It takes a lot to elicit negative feedback from me. Here goes--the president (Liz) is off-the-charts controlling, capricious, stuck-in-the-80s. Never has a president's influence been more apparent for both good and ill. Her paradigm is parent-child, not colleague-colleague, and you will feel it in every encounter. She gets reports on ALL of her employees' actions, even the mundane, like when you use the on-campus salon. She refuses to accept things she doesn't understand, so the creep toward technical modernization is about one step for every 20 years. It is seriously stifling. Management is gossipy and can be vindictive. And if you like to be innovative and try to improve processes, this is absolutely not the place for you.

Pros

Pay is above average. That's about it

Cons

I echo the review about BIG BROTHER always watching. "Anonymous" surveys are never anonymous. HR produces (paper) reports attributing comments back to specific employees. Narcs/moles are everywhere. No conversation (even with your boss) is confidential. Salaried employees are required to clock in and clock out. Seriously. And your hours spent in the office matter more in your salary/performance review than efficiency in getting your work done. Anything less than 50 hours/week is look upon negatively. Beware of positive reviews on here. HR has people trying to combat the negative reviews by posting fake positive reviews on here. Seriously. At times I wondered if my personal cellphone had been bugged.
