Pros

Great discounts, energetic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very helpful long time employees. Awesome learning experience.

Cons

Inconsistent training, horrible pay, non-flexibility with hours, manipulation of hours by store management without informing employees causing them to look like “no shows”. Management more concerned with meeting goal numbers and inspections by upper management than the fact that the employees professional state licensing is at risk due to health and safety factors.

The only reason ULTA has a salon is so that they can sell professional hair care. ULTA does not advertise or promote the Salon. The company tries everything to run the Salon like retail. It's not a personal experience for your guest and the guest is a dollar sign. They chart and track everything and post all of your numbers on the backroom wall. They even post the names of your guests that spend the most money. They change your hours like you are a retail employee. ULTA can not keep our supplies stocked. We never have a full color bar and we are out of cleaning supplies and garbage bags. I earn gratis every week.... but the gratis offered to stylists is a joke. They give samples (like perfume samples you get at Macy's for free or half used product as gratis. I used to love doing hair. I hate it now and i loath going to work. The district makes up rules to manipulate the stylists to do what they want. They lied to the stylists and said master stylists can not work weekends so they could get the lower level stylist the best days and hours to build their guests. The district management is a joke and do not know anything about a salon and make up their own rules until someone calls Human resources and gets the truth. ULTA uses the summit program in the salons. Summit is misereable for a stylist. ULTA allows guests refunds on services all the time. YOU CAN'T TAKE BACK A SERVICE!!!! You did the work but the guest can get the district to accommodate them so they don't (lose) a retail guest. They do not back up the stylist. I would never recommend being a stylist at ULTA. Our salon is literally falling apart and looks gross. There's mold in the cabinetry and blown up particle board. Just dont do hair here.
