Pros

Onsite cafe/gym, lots of parking, 3D printing and design all done in house in Scarborough location which is inspiring I guess.

Cons

People get fired all the time, high turnover, no-one likes working here. CEO yelled out to everyone 'money money money everyone loves money who wants money' during a company-wide draw - that was my cue to leave. Super cliquey. CEO yells in the hallways at employees all the time. Why are people getting fired so often for no reason?

Pros

My personal team was fantastic to work with.

Cons

Since the two years I've been there, the company's gone through 3 layoff sessions. The leadership is extremely weak and have no vision for the company. The CEO as well as head of design is especially lazy and give no effort to keeping Umbra innovative. The industrial design is often from a bygone era. Umbra constantly claims its a global company but its not really. It doesn't have the success of a large institution but refuses to operate with the efficiency and flexibility of a smaller company.

Pros

As a design student its great to chill and chat with customers who are passionate about design. It's definitely better than working minimum wage at a grocery store or something. Wage was okay, not great, no sales commission, 60% discount was pretty sweet.

Cons

They're always hiring for this role, lots of turnover. Why? Bad management. Umbra doesn't care about the store for sales as much as it's brand image, being the flagship store. My manager was great but also said he was mislead about the role and ended up leaving because of this. The CEO's wife, not even store manager will micromanage, push you to bother customers who aren't looking for help(driving them to leave the store for pushy sales tactics), and talk about other employees to you behind their backs, and then have you fired if she decides she doesn't like you. A few former associates and I call it getting Wendy'd. Be prepared, she might seem to like you only to have you dropped the next day. Your job here is not stable.
