The pay was far below industry average (although, to be fair I’m not sure if that is company wide or if my administrator just intentionally lowballed me. My fault for accepting.)
Due to the unpredictable & fluctuating case load, staff is kept @ a minimum in order to keep the budget down & profit up. What this means for staff is that on busy days (approximately 2 days/week) you are understaffed & overworked. You frequently have no help & won’t get a lunch or even a restroom break. If someone from your administration team happens to be there, they will not offer to assist you (partially because they themselves are not trained in all areas of the facility they manage.) You are on your own. Every now & then, they will provide lunch (which does no good when you have no time to stop & eat.)
However, this is acceptable to them because the rest of the week they are cutting the staff’s hours. You may literally come in to do one case & be sent home after only 2 hours. If you are paying for daycare & gas, you’ve just paid to go to work!!
This is a for profit company, their monthly budgets are based off of projections (how many cases they anticipate & how much money they expect to make from those cases). Your administration team is paid salary (+bonuses) & their bonuses are based on their facility’s profits as well as staying under budget. The less the hourly employees make, the less hours the staff works & the less people staffed, the higher the bonus because all of this contributes to the administrator staying under budget!! As an hourly employee, you do all the heavy lifting (literally) & administration takes all of the credit. Purchasing new equipment is something else that subtracts from the budget and/or dips into profit. So, it is very common to work with equipment in poor repair.
This creates a dangerous work environment as everyone is rushed. Staff is constantly told to be quicker, & patients are hurried through. The appropriate time is not taken with the patients neither pre nor post-procedure & the equipment may or may not be functioning properly on that day. Everything is centered around case numbers & speed & Vital information is missed.
The same thing applies when a new employee is hired. They are not adequately trained. They are thrown in & expected to keep up the pace.
The ‘sit down & shut up’ types of employees are preferred over those that are willing to speak up.
If someone does present an idea worth hearing and/or acting on, administration will not hesitate to accept full credit.
Last but not least, beware of cliques!! Some people were hired strictly because of who they knew not what they knew.
All reviews of this company seem to say virtually the same thing, less the ones posted by those in management/administration positions & those are the people doing the hiring. I wish I’d have done more research prior to working there.
