      Great place to be in the non-profit world

      Pros

      - Nice base salary in comparison to other organizations - Great benefits - Flexible hours - Friendly and welcoming staff - Down to earth CEO and approachable leadership - Advancement and personal development opportunities are supported by HR and upper leadership - Overall a super supportive staff that makes on boarding very smooth

      Cons

      Some roles in organization are vague in job descriptions and can make on boarding a challenge when job duties are not clearly defined. If you're new to the non-profit world be sure to ask lots of questions on the job and how that role helps the organization function as a whole during the interview process.

      Pros

      I love advocating for change and improving the community in which I live and work and raise my children.

      Cons

      It is very hard to communicate what we do because it is so broad. Because of this, United Ways across the world have seen a huge decline in their campaigns. To make up for the losses, few United Ways are transitioning away from the "fundraising style" and moving toward a "community impact" style of operation which focuses more on the issues in the community, and losses are being made up with grants.

      Pros

      Social mission, feel good to help others, generally nice people work here.

      Cons

      No pay, minimal benefits, no growth opportunity, deadend job. Managers have no skills in managing, consistent throughout organization. Good place to volunteer or come if you not looking for pay, recognition, or growth and have other means to fulfill those needs. Does not promote from within!!!!

      Professional development and recognizing talent are goals for the United Way of the Bay Area. While UWBA is a small organization that does not have a wide range of positions into which to promote high performers, it does strive to recognize and develop its staff. Over the course of the last several years there have been multiple promotions--within the ranks of program, fundraising, and support staff. UWBA considers promoting from within to be a key ingredient to retaining valued and talented employees.
