Pros

exciting industry, tons of opportunities (not just in Unity, overall). they have some solid engineers and managers.

Cons

Low pay. Hiring bar varies from team to team, even time to time. You might end up working with someone with low productivity but high ego. Also keep in mind that different org is like a different universe, R&D only cares about unity engine, Ads is like its own company, Services is like the middle child that no one care.

Pros

Good health benefits. Pretty generous PTO. Wellness benefits. Huge monitors. Coconut water. VR Room with stinky VR headsets.

Cons

Communication with teams in different time zones is a challenge. No on boarding for new hire and new grads. Too many unreliable services. And no one doing anything to fix it. Reading the reviews makes me chuckle. It's so OBVIOUS which ones are written by HR.

Thanks for the feedback. Responding to a few of the cons you listed. On the time-zones..The good news is we have employees in 28 countries, the challenge is we have employees in 28 countries. The great part is we've been able to hire incredible talent where ever they are and employees have a voice regardless of whether they are in a larger office our out of their home in a remote location. But you are right--definitely takes extra effort for sure. On the unreliable services, we have recently made investments in video conferencing so that is in the works. And on the positive reviews--they are authentic reviews, not HR. It makes me chuckle because HR couldn't do it if we tried..there aren' t that many HR people at Unity to begin with and Glassdoor tracks IP addresses so there are limitations on writing reviews. Lastly--Thanks for calling out on-boarding! While we have a new hire orientation that is pretty good, we've relied on Managers to onboard their new hires and not all managers have been good about doing this. R&D has an deep on-boarding but we have got to work on the other teams. I'm moving this to the top of my list to fix--thanks for the call out!

Pros

Typical benefits of bay area tech company. Not a whole lot really. Interesting work will only get you so far.

Cons

Let's see, where should I start. Work life balance? Nope. I don't know how others get their WLB from. They're probably not in engineering. I know for a fact that it's a big FAT lie. Don't be surprised if you get messaged late at night for trivial things like: "Hey, how come your bug fix A isn't working in staging?" I had a very negative compensation review experience with my manager. We had an agreed upon increase but my actual increase was way lower than promised. Very disappointing. I also know a couple recent hires who were promised managerial positions got positioned as individual contributors as a result of team re-shuffling. Apparently, after talking to my colleagues, this bait-and-switch strategy is not uncommon. Measly stock options and compensation. You are expected to work hard until late night and on weekends, but don't expect that you are going to be rewarded for it. Overall, I wish I had not joined this organization.

It sucks you’re having a bad experience at Unity so far. We’d like to fix that. People absolutely need work/life balance, and while there are times in all organizations where we have to work extra hard to meet deadlines or support a customer in need, it should be the exception not the rule. It would be great if you could bring this up with your manager, or reach out to me (Brett), so we can get this addressed.
