Pros

Individuals and lower level teams are all wonderful

Cons

Execs are focused on revenue growth above all else Communication between teams, departments and upper managers is dire Arbitrary widely affecting decisions are made from the top down with no consideration of or discussion with lower level workers Constantly chasing the current nonsense trend (e.g. blockchain; metaverse; “AI”) at the expense of more useful and realistic projects Understanding or recognition of what other teams do is woeful Huge portions of the company know literally nothing about games

Value-less company completely out of touch

Pros

Unity once was great, so the reputation may be around a bit longer.

Cons

Unity has abandoned all values and is a sinking ship. Upper management has no idea what kind of work most of the employees do, and cannot fathom the hardships and struggles the employee base deal with. As a product they have abandoned teams doing meaningful work on new features and tech. It is now just an ad delivery company for mobile games.

Pros

Smart, competent, hard-working and nice people

Cons

There is huge disconnect between upper management and the people who get the job done. I was part of the reduction-in-force only after two months of starting at Unity.

Pros

Great and very talented individuals work here, with people from all types of industries and backgrounds. Decent health insurance.

Cons

Upper management are incredibly tone deaf and ignorant, and refuse to listen to any feedback that they don’t want to hear, despite their profession that the “best ideas win”. The company is plagued by constant layoffs and reorgs, and the CEO is a narcissist who plays it off like the company is making sound business decisions. They’ve slashed benefits multiple times in the last year, and have also denied severance and parental leave payouts to former employees. Not to mention they’ve pushed back the compensation cycle for all employees by 4 months. Upward momentum is non-existent, and management teams are defined by cronyism rather than merit. All in all it’s become a dumpster fire lately, and it’s clear that the executives are either incredibly out of touch, heartless, or both.

MOST TOXIC UPPER-MANAGEMENT EVER!

Pros

Working at Unity used to be something you would feel proud of, over the years the company has shifted from the nice mentality of dynamic and get-things-done, towards bullsh*t AI, METAVERS, DigitalStupidTwins, Non-sense projects, etc...

Cons

There is no doubt that there is something wrong with upper management. They literally laughed at our faces by getting big massive bonuses while they cut all the benefits we had. This wouldn't be such a problem if they hadn't cut the promotion cycle. In it together? Really? Is this how together we are? Company is rigged!

Pros

The Montreal office is really great, the team is doing a great job to keep it very cool for employees. Free lunches, nice area, big office with all sorts of conveniences for employees. Overall I really enjoyed my time at Unity. I had access to a lot of benefits during 2021, including free courses to improve your skills, reimbursement of a lot of things (commute, sports), health insurance, free stocks, RRSP... As far as I am concerned, my day to day work was facilitated using the latest good practices in development, overall the tech stack we were using was pretty recent and we were using a microservice architecture.

Cons

"I have been part of the recent layoffs (2023), and to be honest, the mood changed during the last 10 months. Additionally, many benefits have been removed. I was expecting layoffs for my team, and although it's easy to say now, I believe it could have been handled differently. I think upper management could have been clearer earlier and attempted to optimize and reorganize teams after the merger with Iron Source. During the last layoffs, upper management was completely disconnected from the rest of the employees. The hybrid mode will be enforced, with no more remote employees and a mandatory requirement of 3 days at the office. Moreover, I believe it's the right time to consider other opportunities, as the company is not in good financial shape

Pros

Great potential and interesting tech

Cons

Upper management doesn't seem to have a clear vision. Constant reorgs, no stability, no vision or cohesion. Very political.
