Pros

I think the pay is fair but I haven't looked around in years. Good PTO. Okay health insurance

Cons

Earlier this year they decided to discriminate against remote workers. Unum offered remote jobs then decided that if you were a remote worker you would be last considered for promotions or other opportunities. Preference would be given to in office employees. Now after working remote for 5 years they are revoking their work from home agreements. If you live within 50 miles of an office you have to go in. This is not going back to pre-pandemic arrangements. I was remote before Covid. My job description that I applied for was a remote job. I would not have applied otherwise. The upper management says all the buzz words but they don't care about the employees or what is best for them. They constantly make changes that come out of no where that affect employees.

Pros

PTO and benefits are good, not much else to compliment

Cons

Since the new CIO has joined Unum, the information technology workers have systematically been laid off and replaced by H1B workers from India. There are likely more H1B and offshore workers in information technology than there are citizen workers. There is essentially NO career potential for an American citizen IT worker. While Unum is dedicated to diversity and inclusion, there is a noticeable lack of diversity in hiring of the highest levels of IT management. The CIO, being from India, has predominantly filled most Sr level management positions with friends from former employers. It would appear there is a prejudice against American citizen IT workers.

Pros

Numerous career growth opportunities, promotions/shifts based on individual work ethic instead of popularity. Benefits available from day one, good amount of PTO hours.

Cons

They literally have the most ridiculous attendance policy. They don’t give you any sick days or unplanned pto days. If you’re literally dying with the flu & have to call in bc you can’t work and don’t wanna get your coworkers sick, you get an occurrence. That wouldn’t be so bad if occurrences didn’t play a big part in shift schedules & promotions. When a company does not offer any sick days it just rubs you the wrong way and looks like they do not care about their employees well-being. 11:30-8pm shift is the absolute worst! No work-life balance and employees never get to be with their families. Hire more west coasters and/or close at 6pm.
