Pros

Lite workload, nice southern charm to the town, friendly staff.

Cons

Basic needs for development and fundraising hard to come by. Archaic database and incompetent staff on the development side. Low pay for the location of the university and the amount of hours on the road.

Pros

One of the few universities offering accelerated programs that actually still value academic standards and don't just push students through because their checks clear. While I cannot speak directly to the main campus, at my satellite campus, faculty are treated as valued and respected members, whose contributions are necessary for the longevity of the university.

Cons

The main campus has bizarre criteria for assigning classes. For example, I have an engineering degree and 20 years experience teaching undergraduate and graduate statistics, as well as numerous published articles on the subject, and yet am not allowed to teach statistics, because I don't have a "math" degree. Likewise, they won't hire a colleague of mine to teach criminal justice, despite him being an accomplished defense attorney, but they will assign the class to someone with a degree in sociology.

Pros

The students who care. Campus diversity (international)

Cons

$8.2 million operating loss last year. Debt downgrade to junk status with negative outlook. Militaristic, authoritarian leadership. Ruling through fear and firing or driving off anyone who might question the direction of the university. Board leadership that went from being asleep at the wheel as the university burned through millions in reserves through construction cost over-runs, non-existent budgeting, and ridiculous tuition discounting to micromanaging and ultimately shutting out all stakeholders from the ultimate decision in the presidential search process. Many new members of executive team appointed by presidential fiat. Zero attempt at shared governance. Removed due process rights of faculty members. Staff and faculty morale is awful. Student morale at Fayette is not much better due to a 10% bump in tuition and fees. Next year's budget balanced by assuming that 10% tuition and fee increase would combine with an almost 10% increase in Fayette enrollments.
