Pros

These are hard to come by these days. Working with students is the pro, although they are also reacting negatively to the current culture. Many are transferring due to an increase of almost 10% in tuition and fees and the cutting of programs and termination of good professors.

Cons

Little faculty input for curriculum-power is now in the deans, provost, and BOT to cut or add programs. If they like you, they keep our program even if there are a few majors. If they don't like you and the program is big, they are still cutting the program and terminating faculty. Faculty given terminal contracts this year had excellent yearly and 3rd year reviews. When called into HR, the dean read from the newly imposed faculty handbook (created by interim dean and BOT friendly faculty chair over one summer without input from rest of faculty) the section stating that the admin doesn't have to tell them why they are getting a terminal contract. New faculty handbook states that we follow AAUP guidelines until it conflicts with the absolute power of the administration when it comes to treatment of faculty. Talk of transparency is big but is a joke. 4 required "furlough" days for faculty that aren't actually days off; no retirement match with no renewal in sight; current climate being hidden by some admin during new searchers. The faculty that can leave are leaving or looking to leave, even if they didn't get a terminal contract. Apathy rampant in larger numbers of faculty and staff.

Pros

Adequate infrastructure in the main location. Some employees have been there for decades and are very loyal.

Cons

High levels of suspicion and mistrust; little sense of employees that executive level has vision. Organizational climate is destroyed now; too many interim positions with no knowledge of UIU. Financial woes resulted in suspension of TIAA-CREF.
