Pros

Small town charm Everyone knows you if you like that kind of thing Get in good with the right people and you're golden

Cons

This school is struggling. In 2022 Forbes gave UIU a financial GPA of 1.11 and a grade of D. The financial position is precarious and the school took out an enormous loan of $70+ million that they keep deferring payments on. Enrollment has declined precipitously and there are noticeably fewer students on campus. This has a snowball effect and there are even less things to do and worse turnout. Upper administration has never been a strength here, but they are unprofessional and unqualified. There are superstars in all departments, but the good and competent people get dumped on and asked to do more and more. Normal things like ROI are not measured and used to inform future decisions. Thousands of dollars are set on fire by doing silly things like an Iowa State Fair booth. It wastes time, money and resources. In the last 8 years, the Board of Trustees fell asleep while the school racked up massive deficits, then canceled a presidential search and appointed an internal candidate. They are now just sitting by while the school continues to nosedive in enrollment, staffing, and online reputation. You’ve got to govern the place and not just show up for your goodie bag a couple of times a year!

Pros

Campus is beautiful and the community of Fayette is very kind.

Cons

This university is basically a dumpster fire. The people at the top have little to no experience with the positions they are in. The board of directors has zero faith in the president and the faculty has voted zero confidence in him - yet he still has a job. Title XI does not exist Students RUN this school. I just watched one of the coaches be forced out because of false rumors and rather than actually investigate (the now confirmed to be false) rumors, they believed the kids and forced her to resign. This isn’t the first time this has happened. School is and has been in a huge amount of debt for years now. The former CFO was a crook and the current one probably couldn’t balance a checkbook. Hires friends without even interviewing them. The Student Life is horrible, they have given kids 24 hour notice to leave their dorms when they have a balance due on their account and when there has been false claims against them without investigating. Everyone BUT the VPs are very underpaid and undervalued. The school should come with a warning label.

Pros

Helping students Mix of new and old buildings with character Hiring standards are low due to the remote campus location so if you are halfway decent you can get a job

Cons

UIU can't you see, the signs are calling? A school like you, should have a warning. It's dangerous, the ratings are falling. ...and I love what I do But does UIU know that it's toxic?
