      Poor leadership and compensation

      Pros

      The best reason to join Uptake is to gain experience working for a startup in a high growth industry. You get an opportunity to work with very smart and highly motivated people, and the ability to get a taste of what working for a startup is like.

      Cons

      As an early employee at the company, I found that management treated its employees very poorly. There was a lack of vision by upper management and a complete lack of respect for the employees. Compensation was very poor - most early employees took major pay cuts and the equity that they offered was minimal (do the math!). If you decide to take a job here, make sure your compensation is competitive given the risk that you're taking in joining a startup.

      Pros

      Uptake is full of the most talented people with whom I’ve had the opportunity of working. Everyone genuinely cares about the rapid and successful growth of the company. We have great benefits: unlimited paid time off, health/dental/vision/life, commuter benefits, gym discounts, the ability to work from home, lunch stipend Monday-Thursday and more.

      Cons

      We’re growing rapidly, so next steps can be unclear sometimes. We have many intelligent members of leadership who are trying to collaboratively establish our messaging, and disagreement presents challenges as we grow. I think this will work itself out over time—we’re barely over a year old.

      Lots of promise, but a few growing pains

      Pros

      Uptake has some of the most intelligent, driven, and kind people I've ever worked with. Nearly everyone is the best of the best at what they do, and it really shows. There's a strong sense that people are committed to the long-term and are personally invested in doing great work, and working together to get there. It's also one of the most collaborative work environments I've ever been a part of. The work is difficult but very rewarding, and the work-life balance is also pretty good for the industry. They also are making great strides to really provide for their employees, from competitive health benefits, open PTO, free snacks, a lunch stipend, and commuter benefits.

      Cons

      There's an overall sense of a disconnect between senior management and the rest of the company. Like most companies that have grown really fast, there are also lots of mixed messages about who we are and where we're going. It's not uncommon to hear one thing one day and another the next. The nature of the business model is that a lot of information about company operations is proprietary, so it's basically a catch 22: there's talk about transparency and openness among employees, but then a frustrating lack of access to information and resources that could help professional development -- but that's also essential in order to keep the company competitive. It's been quite difficult to navigate that.
