The company is split between both the animal hospital and the pet resort. The management is all on or from the hospital side after the previous manager walked out on the job. Because of this, management has no idea what it takes to do any of the jobs on the resort side of the business. Even though management doesn't know what all any of us really do on the resort side, they always seem to assume we can either do more or we are not doing enough. They tell us not to get overtime, but leave us understaffed with more work to do in the usual shift. They offer the "open door policy", but when you really need them they don't seem to be available or don't offer much guidance at all. The pay is low here, so the majority of people who will take the job are all young and mostly inexperienced. We often hear that it's easy to move up in position as soon as there are job openings, but whenever there are these job openings they typically hire from the outside. In the last three months at least 10 people from various positions have quit.

Compensation is an epidemic for certified veterinary technicians at this point, and much like the majority of corporate hospitals, VCA appears to undervalue their technicians. For having almost a decade of experience, they were only offering $1-2 per hour more than new graduates, which is disgraceful. The technicians make those hospitals run and deserve better compensation.
