Pros

My hospital manager and really all of my co-workers were very nice and cool for the most part. It was nice to get a discount and be able to run a tab up with your pets vet bills. Playing with the animals is nice. At times there is a lot of down-time but for the two weeks before and after any holiday and pretty much November-February you won't have time to sneeze let alone play with a dog.

Cons

Inflexible scheduling and you better learn how to show up early for every shift. This may vary by location but my particular hospital was VERY BAD at scheduling extra help around the holidays. There would be upwards of 100 animals to care for by yourself, same number of potty breaks and feeding intervals of course but with only one person, 75-80 dogs, and FOUR OUTSIDE RUNS, trying to give every dog enough time outside to relieve themselves was an absolute joke and without fail resulted in soiled kennels overnight, and when you're booked to capacity (80 DOGS!!!) where does the dog go while you disinfect the run? How are you going to even have enough time to clean the six or seven or ten filthy runs by yourself and still take care of your other duties? I have to laugh or I'd cry at the thought of how many hours I spent OFF THE CLOCK just trying to keep up with everything during the holidays! Yeah because your hospital manager won't like it if you're overclocked more than half an hour, even if you are spending five extra hours a night trying to finish the day... It was relentless and was the main motivating factor in my departure from the company. I couldn't take it anymore and for minimum wage it certainly wasn't worth my time. I even QUIT SCHOOL during the course of this job so I could devote more time to it - stupidest decision I have made to date. The staff meetings were very lame at my hospital, nobody was into it. I hated getting the safety checklist packet thing constantly.
