Pros

Paycheck, paycheck, some relationships, & tuition

Cons

Management is reactionary and slaps bandaids on breaking dams, burnout is rampant, trying out "cool new" staffing rations which is really only helping the hospital's coffers and hurting staff and patients, this place is miserable. The constant policy changes and other bull they're introducing is overwhelming and has zero follow through so you're constantly learning a new process that ends up being abandoned in a week or two when whoever is backing it gives up or is burnt out on that project.

Pros

Teamwork is outstanding; physician coverage 24/7/365

Cons

RN staffing ratios have suffered a lot in the past few years. VCUH wants to keep RN staff to the absolute minimum-compromising safety. Work-life balance is nonexistent-very hard to get time off approved or take vacation time. There is massive RN turnover resulting in a lot of traveling RNs and new RNs and few experienced RNs and this impacts patient care and safety. A CFO stated he would rather have travelers than full time employees.
